Renewable Energy Certificates

Renewable energy certificates (RECs), also known as green certificates, green tags, or tradable renewable certificates, represent the environmental attributes of the power produced from renewable energy projects and are sold separate from commodity electricity. Customers can buy green certificates whether or not they have access to green power through their local utility or a competitive electricity marketer. And you can purchase green certificates without having to switch electricity suppliers.

To purchase this clean energy through the GreenLeaf Program, simply fill out the form and submit with your payment. As a rule of thumb, the average home in our region uses about 12 megawatt-hours (MWh) of electricity a year. If you want to buy enough green tags to cover your home's use, be sure to buy at least 12 MWh a year. If you want to cover half your electric use, buy 6 MWh a year. Note: Buying clean energy, or "green tags" does not have any effect on your electric bill. You will be billed separately by Ohms Energy. The clean energy you purchase will help green up our electric grid.
